A single-vehicle accident on Sunday afternoon has left a Marc, Castries family grieving the loss of a man they describe as the glue that held them together.

Sixty-eight-year-old Nigel Ronald Elibox, affectionately known as ‘Red Man’, died after the vehicle he was in veered off the road and plunged over a precipice in Vanard, Anse La Raye, around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday.

Both he and the other occupant of the vehicle—who was not named by police—were transported to the Owen King European Hospital (OKEU). Elibox, however, succumbed to his injuries.

The condition of the other accident victim was not disclosed.

The deceased’s younger brother, James Elibox, is still trying to come to terms with the news. It is the second older brother he has lost to road accidents.

“He was the head of the family. I’m so sad to see the way he died,” James said, his voice heavy with emotion. “He was holding the family together… Anytime we had a breakdown, he was there for us.”

James said he last spoke to Nigel on his birthday, just a few days before the crash.

He shared that when he heard the news about the accident, he rushed to the scene—but his brother had already been removed from the vehicle. It was at the hospital that he learned Nigel had died.

“I didn’t know it was so bad. I thought it was just a little accident,” he added.
