Fires destroys rice sacks at GuySuco terminal

Kaieteur News- On Saturday evening around 23:22 hrs. a quantity of rice sacks was destroyed by fire at the GuySuco terminal on Ramp Road East Ruimveldt.

According to the police the bags weighed approximately one ton in weight and were the property of Guysuco. “Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn, along with Inspector Blair, Inspector King, Corporal Mounter and other police ranks visited the fire scene at approximately 00:47hrs Sunday,” police said.
Investigations revealed that the rice bags were in a stockpile at the northern section of Guysuco’s wharf when fire was seen emanating from the area by crewmen of MV Roibeira which was docked at the wharf. Subsequently an alarm was raised and the Guyana Fire Service was informed. Water Tenders 98 and 118 and Water Bowser 21, headed by Station Officer Manram.all from the Central Fire Station responded but did not go into action because the fire was extinguished by crewmen from the MV Roibeira vessel using a water hose before their arrival. Several persons were questioned as investigations continue.
