The General Post Office is closed today as police carry out investigations into an early morning break-in.
Postmaster Algernon Gomes tells ABS the perpetrator or perpetrators gained access to the building by breaking through the glass at its main entrance.They searched the building’s ground floor, rummaged through desks and registers and attempted to gain entry into the office’s strong room but were unsuccessful.
They also broke down several doors on the building’s first floor, gaining access to the accounts room but did not make off with anything of value. Gomes says the post office will reopen Tuesday morning. (State Media)
