Emergency services responded to a fire at the ABC Chinese Restaurant in Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, early Tuesday morning, with one person successfully rescued and a search ongoing for three additional individuals.

 

The Guyana Fire Service arrived at the scene at approximately 3:07am, quickly working to bring the blaze under control. 

 

Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn, was present at the location as emergency operations continued.

 

Preliminary investigations reveal that one person of Chinese nationality has been rescued from the burning building. Rescue teams are currently conducting an extensive search for three other individuals who were reportedly inside the restaurant at the time the fire broke out.

 

The full extent of the fire’s damage and the condition of those still unaccounted for remain unknown.
