Dear Editor,

It is becoming clear that a major war is upon the horizon. Unfortunately, Guyana is in an area where a major military conflict will most likely occur. As a nation, we must prepare ourselves for the worst and begin to reel in spending. Given the risks, no additional major infrastructure projects should be undertaken, especially for those structures that will become key targets during the conflict.

The process of the government stockpiling weapons, ammunition, food supplies, and medical supplies are some of the more important investments that should be made during this period. Solidifying supply chain agreements with our western allies and others within close proximity will help reduce wartime disruptions.

However, we must ensure that local production of the essentials can be secured and protected. It is time for the Government and the Opposition work together to layout and execute the plans necessary in preparation for what may no longer be avoidable. We must as a nation also urgently rekindle diplomatic discussions with China and the U.S. to help reduce the presence of Venezuelan troops along our western border. Time is of the essence!
