In the final analysis, it all boils down to the question of trust

Dear Editor,

Kaieteur News – As someone with an interest in Guyana’s politico-economic and social development over the several decades, I have had the opportunity to experience firsthand the ebb and flow of politics and governance in the country. In all of this, there is only one political party that has stood the test of time, namely the People’s Progressive Party.

Under the PPP Guyana transitioned from colonial rule to internal self-government and eventually to sovereign rule. And while it is true that the country experienced dictatorial rule for nearly three decades as a consequence of rigged elections both under the Burnham and the Hoyte presidencies, the political landscape was changed for the better following the return to democratic rule on October 5, 1992 with the active support of the United States and other friendly nations.

As the country faces another General and Regional elections, there are some ‘dark clouds’ seemingly hovering over the distant horizons but as past experience has taught us those eventually failed to crystallize and disappear under the blue skies. How many Guyanese recall the several failed attempts of ‘splinter’ parties to unseat the PPP from office in the 1960s, most notably the Justice Party led by Balram Singh Rai and the Guyana United Muslim Party led by Hosien Ghanie?

Yet we can only neglect the lessons of our past history at our own peril as was the case when the PNC teamed up with the United Force in the 1964 elections to remove the PPP from office, with disastrous consequences. A similar situation obtained in the 2015 elections when the PNC teamed up with the AFC to unseat the PPP/C.

Guyanese are generally very discerning politically and do not allow themselves to be influenced by politicians who seem to care more about their own egos and self-interest rather than the national good.

This is why the PPP/C under the tried and tested leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali will once again emerge victorious at the polls on September 1, 2025. The writing is already written large on the wall. There is only one party that can be trusted to lead this nation to higher levels of progress and prosperity and that is the PPP/C. In the final analysis, it all boils down to the question of trust. And the only party that has never betrayed the trust and confidence of the Guyanese people in terms of deliverables on manifesto promises is the PPP/C.

Regards,

Hydar Ally
