NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Residents across New Providence are reporting power outages and flickering lights in their communities, with some taking to Facebook to express their grievances with Bahamas Power and Light.

In a statement posted at 9:48 pm, BPL advised: “Our team is currently assessing the status of units that tripped offline, resulting in power loss in several areas of New Providence. We are working to bring additional units online.”

– 11:20 pm update from BPL –

“We are making steady progress restoring supply to customers in New Providence following a major transmission failure earlier tonight.

“So far service was restored to PMH, East Hill St., Chippingham, Fort Charlotte, Arawak Cay, Saunders Beach and portions of West Bay St.

“Supply restoration will continue throughout the night until supplies are fully restored.”
