The MP was a sensational character, with a heart of gold which he opened to all in need, friend and foe alike. His untimely and horrific death has shocked the nation on both sides of the divide, and worse has exposed the crude, insensitive, and violent nature of our atmosphere. The MP certainly did not deserve that! The man of whom we speak, Hon. Asot Michael M.P., everyone in Antigua and the isles around know his kind heart, and have shared so much of his life, all are involved and feel his loss!
His absolute brain brilliance was at times obscured by his ordinariness, as he projected his small island local behaviour and language to suit the occasion. He often got confused, creating either fun-filled chaos, or flipped, just chaos – he was a character!

He was conceived in the bowels of the Antigua Labour Party, and managed more than any of his family to fulfill the raw Antiguan culture, defying race. His financial backing of all the sweetest raunchiest music bands Like Burning Flames and others were the beneficiaries of his largesse, expanding over local and regional culture.
He was known to have a heart of gold, and so soft that he cried with people as they cried to him, he never just promised to help, he helped immediately. For this and more his constituents loved him, and as they too have a culture of loyalty, they followed him, as an independent or an ostracized Party Stalwart. He loved them, and they truly loved him.
He was a lover! His love survived hate, and was always willing to forgive and renew his friendships, he was a victim of his love. His close political friends knew they could depend on him and he spread himself thin for them, were they there for him?
On Independence Day I spent two hours with the MP at his house and once more marveled at the absolute brilliance of the man as he gave a ‘telling-off’ to his broker in Florida, quoting dates and numbers off the top of his head, analyzing, correcting and just operating at a level to be admired – the man was pure genius. As has been Asot’s Independence program for years, he then set about ordering lunch deliveries for all of his special colleagues and families starting with the P.M. & GG.
