Man found with cocaine in car remanded

Kaieteur News – A 24-year-old man was remanded on Friday to prison for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Raul Binand appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh where he pled not guilty to the charge which states that he was in possession of 21.972kgs (48.43lbs) of cocaine.

Binand was remanded to prison until July 11, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Friday said that on Wednesday its officers, acting on information intercepted a motorcar on David Street, Kitty. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed several parcels containing a whitish powdery substance suspected to be cocaine.

“The suspects were arrested and escorted to CANU headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cocaine and weighed 21.972 kilograms,” CANU said.
