Dary Denfield Blades, 55, a maintenance worker originally from Ranchito Village, Corozal District, tragically lost his life in a house fire that occurred on Friday night, August 8, in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye.

The inferno broke out after 8:00 p.m. on Sunflower Street in the San Pablo area of the island, and burned a small building where Blades resided. The charred remains of Blades were found during a search in the debris after the flames were extinguished by firefighters.

While the National Fire Service has yet to confirm the exact cause of the fire, unofficial reports indicate that the source of the fire was an unattended lit candle, which Blades, who resided alone, used to maneuver his way through his home.

The home belonged to Mercie Trejo, who is currently not residing on the island.

Although Blades is originally from the Corozal District, he had been living on the island for over two decades and had become a hardworking member of the community.    His body was taken for a postmortem examination to officially determine the cause of his death.
