Man pretending to be Housing Minister’s father charged with obtaining money by false pretense

Kaieteur News-  A 53-year-old construction worker was brought before the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday to answer a charge of obtaining money by false pretense.

The accused, Gavin Rodrigues, of Lot 15 Robb Street, Bourda, Georgetown, allegedly impersonated the father of Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues. He reportedly solicited money from individuals under the pretense of facilitating the allocation of house lots.

Rodrigues was arrested on April 11 and later formally charged.

The charge was read to him during his court appearance before Magistrate Ravindranauth Singh. He pleaded not guilty and was granted$50,000 bail.

The matter was adjourned to June 23, 2025 for further proceedings.
