Man remanded for fatally chopping fisherman

Kaieteur News- A 24-year-old man was remanded on Wednesday in connection with the fatal chopping of a fisherman at Dundee, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

Diveshwanand Latchman, also known as Adesh, of lot 22 Dundee Village, is accused of killing 30-year-old Parmanand Singh, also known as Mousie, on March 22, 2025.
According to reports, police were alerted around 5:50 PM on March 22 about a chopping incident in Dundee. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Singh lying in a pool of blood. Kaieteur News was informed that Singh suffered a severe chop wound to his neck, which led to his death. Following the incident, Latchman was arrested and charged with murder.
Latchman appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. He was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison. His lawyer, Bernard Da Silva, requested a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether Latchman is fit for trial. The court granted permission for the evaluation, and Latchman is scheduled to return to court on April 30, 2025, with the psychiatric report and statements.

The lawyer also informed Kaieteur News that Latchman is a patient of Dr. Bhiro Harry, a Senior Psychiatrist.
