ORANGE WALK, Fri. Sept. 26, 2025
A young Hispanic man was fatally shot by two armed men in Carmelita Village, Orange Walk District, on Thursday, September 25.
The deceased, 27-year-old Leonardo Vasquez of Tower Hill Village, was traveling on a motorcycle with another male individual in the Little Africa area on the Sawmill Road in the village after 5:00 p.m. when they were stopped by two other men on a motorcycle.
Vasquez and his companion got off their motorcycle and were approached by a dark brown-skinned man, who was wearing a red long-sleeve hoodie, and a brown complexioned man wearing a white long-sleeve shirt, a helmet, and a ski mask over his face. They demanded money from Vasquez, who told them that he had their money and went into a nearby yard.
At that moment, one of the men pulled out a firearm and cocked it, which prompted Vasquez to run into a brown zinc house while his companion fled in a different direction. The men followed Vasquez, and one of them fired a shot through the main entrance door, which wounded him on the right side of his face.
The men then fled the scene on their motorcycle. Vasquez was later seen inside the house, motionless, lying face up on the wooden floor, and was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The scene was processed, and an Aguila brand .45 auto live round, one .45 slug, and a black machete were retrieved.
