Kaieteur News- Well, well, well. If it ain’t de great Marco himself that drive straight into de pothole paradise of Guyana. De man come expecting a smooth ride, but instead, he get a crash course in why heavy duty trucks and heavy machinery and Guyanese roads are mortal enemies.

Marco head nearly kiss de roof of de car. De man was heard exclaiming, “What manner of road is this? Surely de Chinese built this torture track!”

Oh, Marco, Marco, Marco! If only it were dat simple. Dem boys had to break it down for him: “Bredda, dis road wasn’t built or mashed up by no Chinese—dis is pure, grade-A, Exxon-induced chaos.”

See, when de oil companies start set up shop and de oil money start flowing, so did de big trucks, de heavy equipment, and de relentless parade of machinery dat treat de East Bank Road like a sacrificial offering. De vehicles turn de road into obstacle course. De faster yuh fit, another heavy duty vehicle come and undo the work.

Marco still rubbing he head. About the road that give he thrills, he must be asking, “But why not fix it?”  Well, it gan get fix. But not till next year. And guess who get de contract? De Chinese. Now that alone is enough fuh give poor Marco a headache.

But at least Marco learn that in Guyana, de roads ain’t just roads—dey are obstacle courses, endurance tests, and like roller coaster rides. Marco survive de East Bank Public Raod, but he leave with one lasting souvenir—a neck brace and a new-found respect for Guyanese drivers who have to navigate dis madness every day.

Welcome to de Wild West of de Caribbean, Marco. Next time, bring a helmet.
