Mohamed promises to rebuild the Palms, upgrade markets at Sophia rally

Kaieteur News – Leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, Azruddin Mohamed on Monday promised to rebuild the Palms Geriatric Home if elected to government. Mohamed was at the time addressing supporters at his party’s ‘C’ Field Sophia public meeting.
The presidential hopeful said his party is committed to bettering the lives of all Guyanese.
“The Palms, look at the condition of the Palms, I will ensure that I rebuild a new Palms for the elders, I will ensure that I do that,” he said.
In its manifesto, which was released in July, WIN pledged to among other things increase senior citizens’ pensions from $41,000 to $100,000.
Additionally, the businessman referenced the Stabroek and Bourda markets that are in need of upgrades. He said his party will create a more conducive environment for both vendors and customers.
“The Stabroek market, the Bourda market… rest assured the people would have a good environment to sell their produces, that is a promise and a commitment of the WIN administration, we will get the job done for the people,” he stated.
Mohamed also promised to increase the salaries of the 10-days workers and Community Service Officers (CSOs) noting that he is aware of the CSOs are receiving payments months after their stipulated deadline.
“I have a list with over 100 ten-days workers they dismissed, but the 2nd of September we are hiring them back. The 10-days workers will get more, the CSOs will get more and they will get their salaries on time because presently the CSOs they have to wait months to collect their salaries,” he related.
The WIN leader continued: “So much barrel of oil, they (government) boasting about the fastest GDP, every day oil is pumping out there, every year we are receiving GY$2 billion and yet the people are left behind and yet we get the crumbs.”
He assured that under his leadership more money would be invested in the people as he plans to cut back on “wasteful spending”.
“We got to cut back. We got to get more money to invest in the people to better the lives of the people,” the Presidential candidate added.
