MP Anthony Smith Criticizes Former UPP Colleagues, Recounts Disrespectful Encounter with George Wehner
MP Anthony Smith, a former member of the United Progressive Party (UPP), shared a contentious encounter with his former colleagues, including George Wehner, the party’s Mobilization Officer.

Smith described an incident at Old Road that highlighted the strained relationships and lack of respect within the party.
Smith explained that despite the indifference shown by the party chair and the political leader, he decided to attend an event at Old Road.
Upon arrival, he saw a group consisting of the party chair, George Wehner, and several other members.

As he approached the group with a polite greeting, he was met with a dismissive and disrespectful response from Wehner.
“When I said good night, George Wehner sized me up and down, and in front of everyone, he called me ‘boy’ and told me to move along,” Smith recounted. “Such disrespect was not only directed at me but also at the people I represent.”
The confrontation escalated quickly, almost leading to a physical altercation.
Smith described how he responded to Wehner’s provocations with sharp retorts, pointing out his own electoral success compared to Wehner’s.
“He said I hadn’t achieved anything, and I replied that I won my seat but Dean Jonas bang he by more than 100 votes.
Smith’s recounting of the incident sheds light on the internal conflicts and personal animosities that have marred the UPP.
He emphasized the verbal abuse and disrespect he faced, which he believes reflects broader issues within the party.
“I want people to understand some of the abuse I went through,” Smith stated. “This isn’t just about personal grievances but about the culture of disrespect that exists within the UPP.”
