Kaieteur News- An accident along the Linden-Mabura Road on Friday has left one person dead, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported.
Reports are that the truck involved in the accident was traveling at a fast rate when it toppled on the wet road.
The accident occurred about 15:00hrs and involved a truck bearing registration number GYY 815 and owned by Rohit Persaud of Area B Industry, East Coast Demerara. At the time of the accident, the vehicle was driven by 25-year-old Mervin Williams who died.
The other occupant of the truck, Deon Wilson of Kuru Kururu, Linden-Soesdyke Highway received minor injuries.
“Inquiries disclosed that the motor lorry was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane of the Mabura Road at an allegedly fast rate of speed. The road is made up of asphalt, which is smooth and was wet due to rainfall,” police said.
Allegedly while approaching a left bent, the truck began to slide and as a result, Williams lost control, causing the vehicle to topple ending up on its left side and pinning him there for some time.
Another truck arrived on the scene and assisted to pull the toppled vehicle off of its side. Wilson was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex in a conscious state where he was treated and sent away.
However, Williams who was unconscious, was transported by police to the said hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was subsequently taken to the Pensioner’s Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
