Police destroy $26.9 million worth of weed in Canje River

Kaieteur News- The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Tuesday destroyed 176 kilograms of weed, valued $26,996,800 during a joint service patrol and eradication exercise at Canje River, Berbice.
According to a report issued by police, the search initially began at Equra, Canje River, where nothing illegal was found. However about 200 yards east of the camp, ranks found one 12-gauge shotgun, two (2) live 12-gauge cartridges, and one spent shell.
“Also, at Petty, Canje River, the team discovered a cultivated cannabis plot consisting of approximately 20,000 suspected cannabis plants, ranging from three to five feet in height,” police said in the report.
Ranks then searched a camp that was on the site and found four live 12-gauge cartridges.
Police added, “The (suspected) cannabis plants and camp were subsequently destroyed by fire. A suspect is in custody assisting with investigations. The firearms, cartridges, and spent shells were marked, sealed, and lodged at a station.” Investigations are ongoing.
