Mexico President Claudia Scheinbum

Belize’s prime minister and Guatemala’s president are to have joint talks with Mexico’s president, Claudia Scheinbaum, at the World Heritage site of Calakmul, Campeche, on Friday, August 15.
Sheinbaum, has continued the custom established by her predecessor, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, to have breakfast briefings with the media, and it was during such a session on Monday, August 11, that she announced that she would travel on Thursday evening to Chetumal, where the briefing will be held on Friday. She said she would meet with Guatemala’s president, Bernardo Arevalo de Leon, at his invitation for a few hours on Friday morning, then return to meet with Prime Minister John Briceño and Arevalo in Calakmul for joint talks on matters of mutual concern.
She hinted that important news will be revealed after the meeting, but did not elaborate, except to say that Mexico has established several agreements with its southern neighbors, which will be announced at a joint press conference at Calakmul.
She will then remain for a separate bilateral meeting with Briceño. According to the Prime Minister’s office, they will discuss the Tren Maya project and the Mayan Biosphere Reserve that spans the three countries. Other bilateral issues important to Belize, such as the generation and purchase of electricity, will also be discussed.
