The piece pays tribute to two iconic Antiguans: Sir Vivian Richards, the nation’s only living national hero, and Odessa’s grandmother, Miriam Samuel, a national awardee. Both celebrated major milestones in 2024, and through her art, Odessa illuminated their legacies of greatness, resilience, and profound impact.

For Odessa, Art Week was more than an exhibition—it was an opportunity to grow as an artist and connect with her roots. Her work featured prominently in three exhibitions, earning significant media coverage and sparking conversations about heritage and sustainability. A particularly heartwarming moment came when Odessa returned to her alma mater, Kids Unlimited. It was here that her artistic journey began, nurtured by the school’s annual art shows. She fondly recalls those early days when her obsession with recycling and transforming found objects took shape, a passion that still defines her work today. She also visited the Golden Achievers Pre-School, reconnecting with the teachers and staff who played an integral role in her foundation.
A Dream Deferred, Not Denied
While her experience was overwhelmingly positive, one missed opportunity tugged at Odessa’s heartstrings. Due to time constraints, she was unable to personally present Celebrate Greatness to Sir Vivian Richards. However, her grandmother, Miriam Samuel, will step in to make the presentation—a gesture that ensures the artwork reaches its rightful recipient and strengthens the bonds of legacy.

As Odessa returns to Montclair State University to complete her double major in visual arts and art education, she carries with her not just the memories of a successful Art Week but also a renewed sense of purpose.
