RHTYSC cricket teams honours outstanding teachers and students

Dropattie Ransammy/Heerie Seenarine Awards
Kaieteur Sports- Â The outstanding teachers and five students were honoured on Thursday last when the cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club MS hosted their annual Dropattie Rammsammy tribute to teachers and Heeria Seenarine Memorial tribute to students award programme. The programmes were held at the Lower Corentyne Secondary School and hosted by the Farfan Mendes Under25, Poonai Pharmacy Under11 and 13, Bakewell Under17 and second division, Pepsi Under19 and Under21 team, Metro Females and Namilco Thunderbolt Flour Under23 and first division.

Club secretary Hilbert Foster in brief remarks stated that the two programmes are held annually by the cricket teams as part of their self-development programme and is one of the seven hundred activities done annually under a wide range of sub-headings like anti-drugs, sports, award, pro-education, community development and youth development.
Under the Heeria Seenarine Memorial tribute to teachers’ programme, ten teachers dawned from schools between Port Mourant to Belvedere were honoured based on their attendance, personal discipline, relationship with students, relationship with their peers among others. The five awardees under the Dropattie Ramsammy Tribute to students’ programme were the top students from grade 7 to 11 at the Lower Corentyne Secondary school. The ten teachers received a trophy, medal of excellence, framed certificate of excellence and three special gifts while the five students carried home a trophy, medal, famed certificate and an electronic tablet.

The students honoured from the Lower Corentyne Secondary were Bindiya Phillips Grade 7, Jayden Ganpat Grade 8, Michael Smith Grade 9, Amanda Sampson Grade 10 and Neya Basdeo Grade 11. The teachers were Rehanna Chunoo (Port Mourant Secondary), Tillicia Fraser (Rose Hall Town Primary), Tina Devnand (Port Mourant Primary), Reanna Watson Durant (Rose Hall Nursery), Sunita Gomes (Rose Hall Town Primary), Eldeca Hema (Corentyne Comprehensive High School), Josafaime Holder Giddings (Lower Corentyne Secondary), Sabana De Dowald and Shalenee Seepersaud (Belvedere Primary).
Sponsor Dropattie Ramsammy a former student of the Lower Corentyne Secondary school and now a registered nurse in the USA, urged the awardees to always strive for excellence. Education she stated can transform lives and used herself as an example. Two of the awardees Miss Rehanna Chunoo and Michael Smith expressed gratitude to the sponsor and the club for honoring them. Miss Chunoo pledged on behalf of the others teachers to always uphold their high standards and to always be an example to their students.
The RHTYSC since it was formed in 1990 by three times Commonwealth Youth Service Awardee, the St. Frances Community Developers has won a total of 125 cricket tournaments at all level and has produced a total of 126 players for Berbice, Guyana and West Indies combined. Its membership includes players like Kevlon Anderson, Kevin Sinclair, Sylas Tydall, Junior Sinclair, Clinton Pestano, Jonathan Rampersaud, Shemaine Campbelle, Erva Giddings, Shabika Gajnabi and Sheneeta Grimmond.
