RSS to wrap up Linden killings probe on Sunday

Kaieteur News- The members of the Regional Security System (RSS) who are currently in Guyana to probe the recent fatal police shootings of Lindeners, Ronaldo Peters and Keon Fogenay, will be in the country until April 20th
Linden Mayor, Sharma Solomon told Kaieteur News on Wednesday that the team has received the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the scope of the investigation from Police Commissioner, Clifton Hicken.
“The three representatives of the RSS, the two Barbadians and the Saint Lucian, explained that their presence here should not give the impression that they are here with any amount of bias.”
He said their comments were in response to concerns expressed by the families of the deceased men. The family had referenced issues encountered during investigations into the killings of the Henry cousins in Berbice, and Orin Boston on the Essequibo Coast.
The mayor said as far as he was updated, the RSS has an ongoing investigation, but did not provide specifics.

Last week, the mining town descended into chaos after 21-year-old Peters was shot dead by a police sergeant. Residents dubbed the shooting death a murder even as the police officer responsible for Peters’ death claimed that his gun accidentally went off. The police’s claim was disputed by surveillance footage which showed him running behind Peters with a gun.
Shortly after, the police officer was seen fetching the injured man by his clothes. As the video footage circulated, residents of the mining town, especially from Peters’ community, were angered.
The shooting death evoked a massive protest in the township on Tuesday, where 32-year-old Fogenay, a bystander, was shot in the eye and killed by another police rank.
Meanwhile, Solomon relayed that both men will be laid to rest on Sunday. He is set to meet with the families to finalise arrangements.
