Taxi driver gets bail on charge of raping girl
Kaieteur News – A 22-year-old taxi driver from Aberdeen, Essequibo Coast was granted bail on Wednesday for the allegedly raping a child under 16 years old.
The incident occurred on the May 13, 2023 on the Essequibo Coast.
The accused Haimraj Narine appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke. Police statements said that during the proceedings, the court reviewed a paper committal, which included witness statements and documentary evidence. These documents were submitted without the witnesses being present and were inventoried and marked as exhibits.
Magistrate Clarke determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to commit Narine to trial. He will stand trial at the next practicable session at the Suddie Supreme Criminal Court. Narine was granted bail in the amount of $150,000.
