The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, will travel to Barbados from February 19-20 to attend the 48th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). He will speak at the opening ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday evening in Bridgetown.
Underscoring the Conference’s theme this year – Strength in Unity – the Secretary-General is expected to highlight three key areas where, together, the global community must drive progress – peace and security, the climate crisis, and sustainable development.
On Thursday, the Secretary-General will have a closed session with CARICOM Heads of Government to exchange views on pressing issues in the region, including Haiti.
