Unstoppable Parika Salem cops both titles in Jagan’s Memorial Windball Competition

Kaieteur Sports- The Region Three leg of the Janet and Cheddi Jagan Memorial Windball Cricket tournament concluded in style at the Parika Salem Community Ground, East Bank Essequibo, with Parika Salem Secondary School sweeping both the Boys’ and Girls’ titles.
The home team delivered a dominant performance in front of a lively and supportive crowd. Parika Salem Secondary’s boys stormed to a commanding 10-wicket victory, while their female counterparts followed up with an equally impressive eight-wicket win over Zeeburg Secondary. Their double triumph makes them the fourth school this year to achieve such a feat.

In the Boys’ final, the match was played on a damp outfield due to the weekend’s unpredictable weather. Uitvlugt Secondary, having lost the toss, were sent in to bat first. Akesh Mohamed top-scored with a quick 16 runs, while Kevin Suraj added 12 to help their side post 38-2 in five overs. Parika Salem’s Revaldo Persaud was outstanding with the ball, finishing with figures of 1-7.
In response, Parika Salem made light work of Uitvlugt’s bowling attack, cruising to 39 without loss in just 2.4 overs. Shazim Mohamed played a fluent knock, scoring 23 runs to seal an emphatic 10-wicket win for his team.
The Girls’ final followed a similar script. Zeeburg Secondary, batting first, were restricted to just 36 runs in their five overs. Parika Salem’s bowlers were clinical, with Alesa Hill starring with figures of 3-4. She was well supported by Reshana Blake, who took 2-2, and Shomika, who claimed 2-6.
Chasing 37 for victory, Parika Salem reached their target with ease despite losing two wickets along the way. Navta Calistro led the charge with a top score of 13 runs, securing the win at 37-2.
The tournament was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) and the National Sports Commission (NSC), and was organised by Sports Officer A. Munroe.
