The Cayo Western Ballers enjoyed their 4th win as they handed the Belize City Thunderbolts their 5th loss, 79-66, at the Sacred Heart College auditorium on Saturday night, July 19.The Ballers’ captain, Arik Nicholas was on fire, as he struck twice from outside the arc for 21 pts, 15 boards, to jump out to a 26-10 lead in the first quarter. The Ballers poured on the gas and never let up, as Dennis Flowers III followed suit thrice outside the circle for 19 pts, 2 boards. Darnel Oden came alive with a trey to post 15 pts in the paint for a 43-25 lead at the half.

Import D’von Campbell also displayed some of his old form, as he drained in a long trey for 14 pts, and Jaheim Ciego was flying high to dunk 6 pts for a 60-49 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. Kerwin Palacio snagged 6 boards and scored 4 pts on the put-back to punctuate the 79-66 win.

Thunderbolts’ import Victor Evans top-scored with 22 pts, and Matthew Young grabbed 17 boards to score 14 pts on the put-back. Charles Garcia put up 12 pts in heavy traffic, while Tyrone “TJ” Hall and Eyan Rene both struck twice from outside the arc for 8 pts each. Rasheed Reneau tossed in a bucket.

At the Punta Gorda Sports Complex on Saturday night, the cellar dwellers, Punta Gorda Panthers suffered their 8th loss, as the Capital City Kings dominated all 4 quarters to enjoy their 3rd win. Nisani Mendez top-scored with 27 pts, and Brandon Flowers struck twice outside the circle for 22 pts, to lead 21-12 in the first quarter, and 46-32 at the half. Shane Patt struck thrice outside the arc for 15 pts, and John Kelly followed suit for 11 pts to lead 67-57 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Keondre Jackson posted 9 pts, and Jamaal Harris shot 8 ptsMarquise Cunningham and Kyle Steward led the Panthers with 28 pts each, Cunningham snagging 18 boards, while Steward grabbed 9. Chance Leslie put up 11 pts, Jaden Sutherland and Kevin Hamilton netted 5 pts apiece, and Alexander Ariola threw in a bucket.
