Political Analyst Peter Wickham says while the Democratic Labour Party’s (DLP) naming of 15 candidates to contest the next General Election is a step forward, some key omissions and strategic missteps can undermine public confidence in it.

“It’s good that he’s made a start,” he said in reference to Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne. “We need to congratulate him for making a start because, I mean, it really took him too long to get something started out.”

However, he said of concern was the absence of clarity on where Thorne, currently Member of Parliament for Christ Church South, plans to run. 

“The issue for me is you don’t identify yourself with a constituency first and foremost. That’s the one question people need to know: where is the leader going?
