Kaieteur News – Newly formed – We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, who has been in existence for approximately 59 days, is the first political party which unveiled its election manifesto on Thursday.

Launching the party’s manifesto at their Providence head office, was WIN’s party leader, Azruddin Mohamed, General Secretary, Odessa Primus, and party candidates Natasha Singh- Lewis, Dawn Hastings-Williams, and Tabitha Sarbo-Halley.

Opening yesterday’s proceedings was Primus who related this manifesto is in presentation of a collective vision to transform Guyana. “What you are about to hear is as a result of steadily listening to the people, we didn’t sit in a room and create policies from top down, we built it from the ground up and what emerged are covered under three pillars: National Projects and Policies, Our WIN initiatives and our Regional Projects,” Primus explained.

Expounding a little on these pillars she disclosed that their national projects and policies are long-term transformative ideas that speaks to key sectors, and that it addresses what the problems are and provide solutions.

Relating to their WIN initiatives, she said these are immediate, actionable and people driven investment that will directly impact lives, while the regional development projects are tailored, targeted solutions designed specifically for the ten administrative regions, that are developed to foster economic growth and to empower each other.

The projects and policies, she mentioned were compiled and developed by a team of young people who are experts in their fields, who came together in dialogues, consultation and in intense research to chart a new course for Guyana.

In his opening remarks at the launch, businessman Mohamed said at WIN, they envision a Guyana where the blessings of the country’s abundant resources uplift everyone and where love and harmony dispel hate and division. Unveiling their manifesto under the theme: ‘Re-building on the Foundation laid, for a Prosperous, Unified, and Safer Guyana’, Mohamed noted that they are committed to working with everyone who is willing to put Guyana above self, for it is only unity that all Guyanese can benefit equitably.

“This manifesto is more than words or a document. It is our solemn oath to every Guyanese that your life will be improved through bold policies, projects, and sustainable programmes designed to provide better living standards, heal divisions and secure our communities,” the Party leader said.

He added that through the pages of their manifesto, one will find a very clear and consistent vision of a government that works for the people, creating opportunities for every citizen to thrive. “In service to the nation, we present transformative plans to reduce the cost of living, increasing personal and household earnings, revitalize key sectors, and dependency on imports and modernize our production capabilities, ensuring that Guyana becomes an economic powerhouse in the region,” Mohamed presented.

In unveiling his plans, Mohamed mentioned that he has chosen not to accept a presidential salary if elected, and noted that it will be redirected into a fund that will be used for projects to empower the people. The Presidential candidate in announcing incentives his party intends to implement if elected, Mohamed stated that public assistance will increase from $22,000 to $50,000, public assistance for individuals living with HIV and cancer will increase from $14,000 to $30,000, old-age pension will increase from $41,000 to $100,000, the school cash grant will increase to $100,000, and the income tax threshold will increase from $130,000 to $200,000 per month.

Mohamed also announced that they intend to reduce PAYE (pay as you earn) from 25% to 20 %, and public servants will receive a scaled salary increase of up to 50%, and plans to engage the private sector to increase the private sector minimum wage.

He mentioned also that WIN will implement an annual Conditional Transfers, ensuring that the wealth generated from Guyana’s natural resources is shared directly with the people. Additionally, speaking on tax reform and incentive measures, he noted this is aimed at ensuring tax policies align with the country’s broader economic vision, creating a favourable environment for investment and better living conditions for all Guyanese.

Part of what they intend to in relation to this, Mohamed highlighted will be to expand the list of zero-rated items, reduce Value Added Tax from 14% to 10%, and introduce a guaranteed negative income tax top-up for poor households.

In relation to vehicle taxes, he mentioned that used vehicles with 0-1499 CC, the flat rate duty will be reduced from $800,000 to $700,000, for new vehicles with 0-1499 CC, the customs duty will be reduced from 35% to 20%+ VAT.

“All other classes of vehicles, including four-door pickups, will see sweeping reduction of up to 60%, ATVs will be duty and VAT free, and outboard engines of 75 HP or less will be VAT free,” Mohamed promised. The party noted that their manifesto stands as a clear commitment to inclusive development and sustainable growth for all Guyana.
